(JUNEAU, Alaska) — As part of the ongoing Engineer’s Week through Feb. 23, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT & PF) is sponsoring a free children’s bridge building event at the Mendenhall Mall Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The E-Week Build-a-Bridge Challenge is an opportunity for public outreach to area children where DOT & PF Bridge Section staff members can incorporate math and science in the process of building and testing a model bridge,” said Elmer Marx, a DOT & PF bridge engineer.</p>

According to the DOT & PF’s Michael Lukshin, one of the event’s coordinators, all of the necessary supplies for kids to build and test bridges will be provided during the three-hour challenge.

“We want kids to come to the mall Saturday, take the challenge of building and testing a model bridge, and of course, have a good time,” said Lukshin.
