Newly Promoted AHFC Director of Public Housing Safeguards Residents During Storm

ANCHORAGE, AK – September 7, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Catherine Stone, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s (AHFC) former director of housing operations, was only just recently promoted to director of public housing but her knowledge of expertise were put to the test this week during Anchorage’s once-in-a-generation windstorm.

As director of public housing, Cathy oversees all aspects of public housing across the state of Alaska, including the oversight of Chugach Manor and Chugach View in Anchorage, Alaska. These facilities house more than 240 residents and are mostly inhabited by seniors and Alaskans with disabilities. When the power went out at both facilities around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Stone accompanied a crew of maintenance staff for facility visits and instructed an overnight stay so that the team could be on-site to provide assistance.

“AHFC is appreciative to have someone with the background and expertise in public housing that Cathy has and she proved her worth once again during this event,” said Dan Fauske, AHFC CEO. “Her actions during the windstorm show a commitment to the job and to our tenants, and I applaud both Cathy and the maintenance staff who worked all night to ensure the safety of our residents.”

Stone, a former consumer protection attorney for the State of Alaska, started her career at AHFC as director of housing operations in 2008. She is a long-time Alaskan with a double major in political science and American history from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and a law degree from Gonzaga University.

“My love for Alaska began when my family moved to the state when I was 10 years old. I graduated from Service High School, and after college, I came back to raise my family. Now I have the opportunity to make Alaska a great place to live for others,” said Stone. “I’m very fortunate to have a job I love and to do it in a place I love, with a staff that shares my commitment to the cause.”

Power has now been restored to both public housing facilities.
