Former Employee Returns to AHFC as Director of Housing Operations

ANCHORAGE, AK – October 9, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) welcomed back Mike Courtney, a former property manager, as the new director of housing operations for its public housing division on September 10, 2012.

Courtney was previously a property manager for Loussac Manor, the newly renovated property now known as Loussac Place, until he left to work for AHFC’s partner, NeighborWorks, 11 years ago. After gaining additional experience in affordable housing management for public and not-for-profit sectors, Courtney applied for the AHFC position previously held by Cathy Stone, now director of the 127-person public housing division.

Courtney also has more than 20 years experience in real estate, banking, mortgage insurance and construction that further supplement his qualifications.

“Mike is an excellent addition to our public housing division, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to his home here at AHFC,” said Dan Fauske, AHFC CEO.

Courtney will oversee the entire state portfolio for AHFC’s public housing division. His responsibilities include management of 4,600 Housing Choice Vouchers and 1,700 public housing units in 16 locations throughout the state.

Courtney is not the first in his family to serve the Alaska public—his father was the former head of Alaska State Housing Authority, the precursor to AHFC’s public housing division.

Some of his best qualifications, Courtney believes, are having a team orientation, a good portion of common sense and being born and raised Alaskan. Like many Alaskans, he enjoys fishing, four-wheeling and snow machining, and also spending time with his family at their cabin at Sheep Creek near Talkeetna. He already has ideas for the future of the public housing sector. “One area that I’d like to see development in is the acquisition and rehabilitation of old motels and hotels for the purpose of creating affordable housing,” said Courtney.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is a public corporation with a long history of providing Alaskans access to safe, quality and affordable housing through home financing programs, energy efficiency and weatherization programs, public housing and more. Since 1986, AHFC has contributed $1.9 billion to the State of Alaska’s General Fund.
