ANCHORAGE, AK, June 27, 2014 –- June 30, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is awarding more than $5.9 million in homeless assistance funds through its Basic Homeless Assistance Program.
Funds will be distributed to 28 organizations in 13 communities statewide, and are expected to benefit more than 12,500 homeless individuals and those threatened by homelessness.
Governor Parnell and the Alaska Legislature made funding available through the 2015 capital budget and funds will provide operating expenses for emergency shelter and transitional housing facilities, and supportive services, including permanent housing placement, street outreach and rent/utility arrearage assistance. Recipients are determined through a competitive application process. Applicants are evaluated based on program priorities, utilization, performance and community need.
“Being homeless is devastating not only for the individual but also for our communities. AHFC is committed to the 2009 ‘10-year Plan to Reduce Homelessness in Alaska’ and is in strong support of organizations working on solutions that offer housing and supporting services,” says Bryan Butcher, AHFC CEO and executive director.
