ANCHORAGE, AK – September 4, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s (AHFC) public housing division announces that the new housing complex at 1248 East Ninth Avenue in Anchorage is ready to accept applications on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The four-plex building features single-occupancy one-bedroom and efficiency units (two each). One of each are fully accessible to people with disabilities. Rent will be consistent with fair market rates to keep the units affordable, $750 for the one bedroom units and $625 for the efficiency units.
AHFC’s new project adds units to its inventory for the first time since the Riverbend Housing project was completed in 1998, located 20 minutes from downtown Juneau in Mendenhall Valley. Prior to reconstruction of the East Ninth four-plex, AHFC assumed the foreclosed property, demolished it and built new — turning it into safe and affordable housing and enhancing the neighborhood.
“There is a looming housing shortage in Anchorage that is driving up rent and home prices; AHFC remains committed to providing new units that are both efficient and affordable,” said Bryan Butcher, CEO and executive director at AHFC.
In the past 18 months AHFC has either financed or developed 470 units of affordable housing, including Inlet Towers, Howard Johnson and Loussac Place. The Trailside development, grand opening August 26, will add another 66 units, and it will be followed by San Roberto with 18 replacement units and an additional 70 affordable housing units on six acres of recently purchased land in Mountain View.
Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is a public corporation with a long history of providing Alaskans access to safe, quality and affordable housing through home financing programs, energy efficiency and weatherization programs, public housing and more. Since 1986, AHFC has contributed $1.9 billion to the State of Alaska’s General Fund.
