Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Expands Home Energy Rebate Program to make more Alaskans eligible for second rebates up to $10,000

January 14, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Alaska homeowners who used the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Home Energy Rebate Program or 5 Star Plus New Home Rebate Program and have since built or purchased a new or existing home are eligible for a new rebate.

The program change is implemented starting today. Alaskans interested or wanting to sign up for either program should contact the AHFC Rebate Call Center at 1-877-257-3228 or go to www.akrebate.com.

The Home Energy Rebate Program focuses on energy efficiency upgrades with up to a $10,000 rebate available to homeowners thanks to generous funding supported by the Alaska Legislature and Governor Sean Parnell since 2008. The 5 Star Plus, Alaska’s highest energy efficiency rating, New Home Rebate Program differs slightly, providing a $7,500 rebate for new home construction. Both programs encourage homeowners to construct, purchase or retrofit homes that are energy efficient, saving homeowners across the state an average of 33 percent after completion.

“This is big news for Alaskans who have recently or are moving,” said AHFC executive director and CEO Dan Fauske. “Since 2008, almost 31,000 families have received energy ratings on their homes and the majority have followed through and are living more comfortably, each receiving an average check of more than $6,300 and saving more than $1,000 in annual fuel costs.”

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is a public corporation with a long history of providing Alaskans access to safe, quality and affordable housing through home financing programs, energy efficiency and weatherization programs, public housing and more. Since 1986, AHFC has contributed almost $2 billion to the State of Alaska’s General Fund.
