Anchorage, AK - June 3, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- In an effort to make geothermal power projects economically viable and to produce more affordable and reliable electric power for homes and businesses, Governor Sean Parnell signed Senate Bill 243 today.SB 243, sponsored by Senator Lesil McGuire, encourages safe exploration for and development of Alaska’s enormous geothermal energy. The bill moves jurisdiction over the permitting and inspection of geothermal wells and operations from the Department of Natural Resources to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. The Board of Directors for Alaska Housing Finance Corporation this week approved an $846,000 mortgage loan to Lumen Park Associates for a 20-unit low- to moderate- income independent senior housing project to be located on the east side of Lake Otis Parkway, near the southeast corner of Abbott Road and Lake Otis intersection.

ANCHORAGE, AK - March 19, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Friday, March 19, 2010 – The Board of Directors for Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Tuesday approved $1.9 million in mortgage loans for Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA) to finance the development of the fourth phase of the Mountain View Village low-income family housing development. A total of 34 housing units will be built at three different locations, consisting of one- to four-bedroom units, renting for between $700 and $1,100 per month to qualified families.

November 2, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- Nine rural communities have been selected to receive grant funds next year under Alaska Housing Finance Corporation's Teacher, Health Professional & Public Safety Professional housing program.After a competitive review process, applications approved for new construction are for teacher housing in Mountain Village eight units, Unalaska six units, Koyuk two units, Teller four units, Napaskiak eight units, and Huslia two units. Approved for rehabilitation of existing housing units are Tanana two units and Noatak four units.

Grants bring total HUD’s Recovery Act investment in Native American and Alaskan communities to a half billion dollars. Recovery Act funding to stimulate the production of affordable units stalled by recession. July 30, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan Tuesday awarded $5,490,631 to jump start affordable housing programs in Alaska that are currently stalled due to the current economic recession. Funded through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act), HUD’s new Tax Credit Assistance Program (TCAP) will allow the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation to resume funding of affordable rental housing projects across the state while stimulating employment in the construction trades.
