Homeless Population Database Measures and Tracks Trends and Indicators
ANCHORAGE, AK - October 20, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Of the 6,460 homeless people counted statewide by all the service providers this year, more than half lived in Anchorage, 11 percent have chronic substance abuse issues, and six percent are veterans, according to the Alaska Homeless Management Information System (AKHMIS), the state's first centralized database that stores information like this so staff can monitor and respond to changes and developments among the homeless population.
New funding helps AHFC to expand HOME Opportunity Program (HOP)
ANCHORAGE, AK - October 19, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) awarded $1.7 million in additional funding to two non-profit intermediary agencies to administer the HOME Opportunity Program (HOP). HOP provides principal buy-down, down payment and closing cost assistance for eligible lower income households. With the additional funding, HOP availability will be expanded to areas that have not been previously served throughout Alaska.
AHFC Ranked Most Efficient Public Housing Agency in the Nation

Roppel Returns As AHFC Board Chair
ANCHORAGE, AK - August 26, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) board of directors, at its annual meeting, this year held in Cordova, re-elected Frank Roppel of Wrangell to serve as the board chair. Governor Murkowski appointed Roppel to the board of directors in July 2003, and he has served as chair since that time. Roppel previously served on the Alaska State Housing Authority (ASHA) and AHFC boards for 12 years in the '70s and '80s. He retired from Alaska Pulp Corporation in 2001. Roppel is also chairman of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, a subsidiary of AHFC, which recently presented a feasibility study of an in-state gas line aimed at providing gas at the lowest possible cost to a majority of Alaskans.
AHFC Increases Loan Limits and Streamlines Second Mortgage Programs for Alaskans
ANCHORAGE, AK - June 9, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Alaskans now have streamlined options for a second mortgage for home improvements. Alaska Housing Finance Corporation's (AHFC) board of directors has approved the consolidation of various second mortgage programs into a single program that allows for property values to be determined by a method other than a new appraisal for loans up to $100,000 that do not exceed a combined loan-to-value of 75 percent.
AHFC to Close Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

AHFC will continue to accept applications in person or by mail if postmarked by May 31, 2011. HUD Secretary Donovan Announces New Grants for Two Homeless Programs in Alaska

HUD Awards More Than $900,000 to Provide Housing for People with AIDS/HIV in Alaska
Anchorage, AK - April 27, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today awarded $915,440 to renew support for a statewide HIV-AIDS housing program administered by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.
The three-year renewal funding is provided under HUD's Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA) program. These supportive housing grants continue critically needed housing and support services to extremely low-income persons living with HIV/AIDs. During each of the next three years, this HUD funding will help provide permanent supportive housing so they can manage their illnesses while receiving critically needed support services.
RurAL CAP Assumes Responsibilities for Anchorage Weatherization Program
ANCHORAGE, AK - April 4, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Effective today, the Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (RurAL CAP) will assume administration of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation's weatherization program in Anchorage. The Municipality of Anchorage had administered the program for many years. RurAL CAP operates AHFC's weatherization program in western and northern Alaska and the city and borough of Juneau. In 2010, RurAL CAP weatherized 309 homes in 10 communities.

Begich, Klobuchar, Bipartisan Group of Senators Introduce Bill to Fight Homelessness Among America’s Veterans
