ANCHORAGE, AK – April 4, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Effective today, the Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (RurAL CAP) will assume administration of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s weatherization program in Anchorage. The Municipality of Anchorage had administered the program for many years. RurAL CAP operates AHFC’s weatherization program in western and northern Alaska and the city and borough of Juneau. In 2010, RurAL CAP weatherized 309 homes in 10 communities.
AHFC CEO/Executive Director Dan Fauske said, “When Mayor Sullivan announced last November that the Municipality would no longer manage the program, we worked to facilitate a transition that would appear seamless to the citizens of Anchorage. RurAL CAP has done a terrific job operating the weatherization program in many parts of Alaska, so we knew they could easily step in to manage the Anchorage program.”
The weatherization Program, along with the Home Energy Rebate Program, received $360 million in funding from the 2008 Alaska legislature. It provides upgrades for housing for Alaska’s low- and middle-income renters and homeowners. The program provides energy-efficient upgrades to about 500 homes in Anchorage each year and to about 4,000 homes statewide. The focus of weatherization is to increase the safety, energy-efficiency and comfort of the homes served. Home upgrades may include sealing the windows and doors; and insulating walls, floors and ceilings.
RurAL CAP has imported the MOA’s waiting list, so anyone who has already submitted an application to the MOA does not need to do anything. New applicants can call 907-771-7800 or visit RurAL CAP’s Anchorage weatherization office located at 557 E. Fireweed Lane, Ste. D.
AHFC is a self-supporting public corporation with offices in 16 communities statewide. It provides statewide financing for multi-family complexes, congregate facilities, and single-family homes, with special loan options for low- to moderate-income borrowers, veterans, teachers, health care professionals, and those living in rural areas of the state.
AHFC also provides energy and weatherization programs statewide, low-income rental assistance in 17 communities, and special programs for the homeless and those seeking to become self-sufficient. AHFC has contributed more than $1.9 billion to Alaska’s state budget revenues through cash transfers, capital projects and debt-service payments.
